Remembering Gary.
Camp Gary Fund
The Camp Gary Fund is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to supporting organizations and individuals, through grants and scholarships, who enhance a spirit of learning and inspire youth and young adults to increase their potential.
The Camp Gary Fund was formed as a memorial to Gary Hale to perpetuate his spirit of generosity and encouragement. Gary was a natural mentor to many, his genuine love and enthusiasm while teaching a child to fish was a magical thing to encounter.
Camp Gary began as a nickname by friends and families who visited Gary in Rockport TX. He was a full service “camp counselor” with all of the energy and sparkle one would expect. Nothing excited him more than teaching a child to fish and having them make their first, second, third... catch. And, he was always ready and available for the next child. It never got old for him.
Through the years it came to mean so much more. His encouragement was evident with every activity: swimming, softball, baseball, basketball, track, volleyball, dance, theater, singing, fixing a car, building a house, building a set, driving a boat, cleaning a boat, cleaning a fish, making ice cream, gambling, golfing or fishing. Gary took genuine interest in everyone he encountered, making them feel special and loved. He was always in the moment, energetic and ready to teach. Gary was a delightful gift.
The Camp Gary Fund will host annual fundraisers to support organizations who exhibit the same enthusiastic mentorship of youth and young adults.
